Special Funds Management Intern

The Operational Partnership Department (OPD), under the Vice Presidency, Policy and Strategy, is responsible for managing and coordinating the operational partnerships between AIIB and relevant multilateral organizations, fora and stakeholders, administering the Bank’s Special Funds resources including performing the role of Implementing Partner of selected partnership facilities, as well as managing the Bank’s engagement with regional coordination mechanisms, with the objective of building relationships that can mobilize additional resources for AIIB’s investment operations. The Institutional Engagement and Regional Cooperation Team under the OPD department is in charge of overall relationship management and strategic alignment with sovereign and non-sovereign partners, originating and managing technical partnerships and providing upstream support.
The OPD is seeking an intern for Special Funds Management to provide research, analytical, operational, and coordination support. This includes, but not limited to, review of best practices on the management of concessional resources, provide research and analytical support on the effectiveness and efficiency of existing Special Funds, review of the current operational procedures for AIIB’s existing funds and the development of a concessional finance approach for AIIB operations.
Responsibilities:
The main objective is to conduct a study on AIIB's concessional finance window and interest rate buy-down instrument. Specific outputs include:
1.Conduct research on the best practices on the management and administration of the Bank's concessional resources.
2.Analyze the impact of various types of concessional resources on the pricing and cost structure of AIIB’s financial instruments, with specific focus on their financial sustainability and developmental effectiveness.
3.Prepare and present the findings of the study in a structured and professional format, such as a detailed slide deck and/or project document tailored for internal and external stakeholders.
Additional Responsibilities:
4.Provide assistance in maintaining and updating AIIB's Special Funds data platforms to ensure data accuracy and functionality.
5.Conduct any other tasks as required by the Operational Partnership Department.
Requirements:
- Currently enrolled in a Master/MBA or PhD program, preferably specialized in finance, business, economics, international relations or public policy, or other relevant fields.
- Strong foundation in finance, with the ability to calculate loan pricing, analyze loan terms, and model interest rate scenarios.
- Hands-on experience with financial modelling and the quantitative analysis of financial instruments.
- Experience in in an analytical role, such as management consulting, financial advisory, policy research/analysis, or related fields, ideally with exposure to infrastructure or blended finance.
- Demonstrated ability to think critically and work independently under supervision.
- Proficient in preparing professional presentations (PowerPoint) and conducting data analysis using spreadsheets.
- Knowledge of international organizations and global policy discussions, particularly in areas such as infrastructure development, blended finance, cross-border connectivity, and climate finance, is an advantage.
- Excellent proficiency of professional writing and speaking of English. Should be comfortable to communicate and work in an international and culturally diverse environment.
- Strong teamwork skills and the ability to collaborate with colleagues across disciplines.
